• Update: Copies only new or updated files from the source to the target without deleting any files.

For advanced users, syncing rules can be customized further, including file filters by name or extension and exclusion of temporary or system files.

Users can choose to move deleted files to the Recycle Bin for additional protection, reducing the likelihood of accidental data loss. Real-time synchronization and batch processing are also supported, enabling users to automate and chain multiple sync jobs via the integrated Batch Job feature.

Compatibility and Advanced Features

FreeFileSync provides support for both local drives and network shares, as well as syncing over SFTP for remote servers. It maintains symbolic links, comes with portable and installable versions, and supports Volume Shadow Copy (useful for copying locked files). Additionally, the application handles large folder structures efficiently and logs activities for later review.

Limited Automation But Comprehensive Controls

Although FreeFileSync requires users to initiate synchronizations unless automation is set up via batch jobs or Task Scheduler, the manual process ensures that users are always in control. Dialog prompts before deletion and backup options provide extra assurance against unwanted changes.
